Tale of feline fun

The Ship’s Cat by Katie Scorah is an illustrated rhyming picture book that follows an ‘unlucky’ black cat called Bella and encourages children to never judge people by their looks or skin colour.

The author says: “The idea for The Ship’s Cat came about through my own fascination with the different superstitions surrounding black cats, particularly why they are overlooked at rescue centres and so on.

“I discovered that, in maritime terms, black cats were seen as bringing good luck rather than bad. I liked the idea of a story which encouraged readers not to judge others on appearance, and to show that all different kinds of people can be friends.”

A lucky Army&You reader could win a copy of The Ship’s Cat, worth £7.99.

The closing date is 31 July 2026.

Seek out Scottish gems

Moray is one of Scotland’s most captivating regions – where dramatic coastlines, golden beaches and mountain landscapes meet centuries of rich history and vibrant local culture.

The second edition of Moray Speyside: A Travel Guide offers a fresh, accessible way to explore this diverse area, with expanded listings, updated travel tips and new highlights.

The guide takes readers from the fishing villages of the coastal Laich to historic inland towns. Follow the River Spey through whisky country to the foot of the Cairngorms, showcasing castles, distilleries and hidden gems along the way. Visitors can expect practical advice on water sports, wildlife tours, festivals, local walks, and family-friendly activities, plus insider tips on award-winning ice cream spots.

Written by Iona Grant, a military wife who grew up near Kinloss, the guide is ideal for independent travellers, families and cultural explorers. For more information: igb-publishing.yolasite.com

Three readers can each win a copy of the guide, worth £10.99.

The closing date is 31 July 2026.

Stay connected

Military spouse Tendai Nthakomwa recently published a children’s journal for children aged four to 10, which stems from an idea she had when her two daughters were growing up.

It’s suitable for all military children wherever they may be to help them stay connected and express their feelings when their loved one is away.

The journal has prompts which give children something to focus on during periods of separation. It is available on Amazon and comes in both hardcover and paperback.

Three lucky readers have the chance to win a paperback copy of My Deployment Buddy.

The closing date is 31 July 2026.

Support in pregnancy

Replenish is an electrolyte and vitamin solution designed specifically for the needs – and tastes – of women suffering from pregnancy sickness.

It was created by Army spouses Laura Milward and Laura Moore and inspired by Laura’s experience with hyperemesis gravidarum, which is a severe form of the condition.

The sachets offer electrolytes and vitamins, including folic acid, in a 28ml liquid format that’s easy to take when nausea strikes. And there’s no strong taste or smell.

One Army&You reader has the chance to try a week’s supply of Replenish.

For more information, visit replenish-electrolytes.com and for 15 per cent off your first order use the code ARMY15

The closing date is 31 July 2026.
