Have you ever tried writing a report with a toddler climbing your leg, or attending a Zoom meeting with the washing machine spinning at full speed in the background?
Remote work and study from home as a military spouse can be a real challenge.
Of course, the upside is that when yet another posting comes through, you don’t have to go through the rigamarole of handing in your notice and looking for another job that will fulfil you and be flexible enough when life happens.
However, it can also be really isolating. One of the easiest ways to make friends and connections in a new area is through work, but when your team members are based all over the country, it’s not quite the same. Also, who else do you chat with about the latest episode of Love Island or Bake Off? This is where the Military Coworking Network comes in.
There are currently nine coworking hubs, which are equipped with desks, Wi-Fi, coffee machines with free tea and coffee and a printer. Some hubs also have parking, private office space and kitchen facilities.
How can I join?
Membership costs £30 a year, giving you 900 hours of desk bookings, more than enough to work full-time from the hub if you choose, and that valuable element of separating life from work. You can also book a free trial.
For all hub members, and for everyone else, there is online membership. This is free, with a business directory, online events and resources.
The Military Coworking Network also hosts free virtual coworking sessions, social Tuesday evenings (Craft & Chat, Book Club) and masterclasses. It’s OK if you’re late, if you keep your camera off, if you end up with an animal on camera with you, or if you’re even joining in from bed!
Whether you’re chasing career goals, completing a degree, or just trying to get some peace and quiet away from the chaos of home life, the network offers community and a much-needed sense of normality.
Visit the Military Coworking Network website to get started – your desk (and your people) are waiting!
