Calling all service children! Look out for ‘play streets’ – coming to a garrison near you this summer.

So that you can play safely outside, the road is closed for a couple of hours, creating a safe space for a kickabout with your friends, practising the latest tricks on your scooter or just hanging out.

Play streets are part of a Summer of Play being organised by the Army Welfare Service Community Support team with the help of a donation from Annington. They are working with Playing Out, a national organisation that supports children’s play outside their homes.

Playing Out said: “Having time and space to play is widely recognised as fundamental to every child’s health, happiness and development. So much so that it is actually a human right, as set out in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Unlike organised or paid-for activities, playing outside near home is also fun, free and open to all children.”

Keep an eye out for more via the HIVEs and unit Facebook pages and contact your local AWS Community Development Worker if your street would like to take part.
