AFF HAS continued to support the Army Sport Control Board and recently went along to two Inter Service rugby games to spread the word about our work to a wider audience.
We set up our stand at the Army v Navy game at Twickenham and Army v RAF game in Gloucester in May.
In Twickenham commentator and TV presenter for the match, JJ Chalmers, stopped for a chat. He said: “There’s no rivalry like that between the services. When I was in the Marines I saw how it forges pride and healthy competition. Sport brings military personnel together, which is especially important if you’re deployed and far from family and friends.”
On the day we also met then Armed Forces Minister Alistair Carns who praised AFF’s input into the recent Defence Housing Strategy.
It was great to meet so many families, organisations and other charities at the games, including the Hugby team from LooseHeadz, a rugby mental health charity. We found out about the support Betknowmore provides on gambling addiction and spoke to Healing Military Minds who support the mental health of serving personnel and veterans.
