HUNDREDS of school children in Hohne and Fallingbostel have met two British Olympians thanks to CSE Events & Entertainment.

Gymnast Beth Tweddle, who won bronze at London 2012, and Philip Hindes, a gold medalist the on the cycling track, took part in sports day events and were invited to a question-and-answer session with pupils from SCE schools in the garrison.

CSE events manager Angie Avlianos said: “The children face a challenging summer as they relocate around the world as part of the Germany re-basing programme. It’s great to see the morale boost that visits like this bring to younger members of the military community.”

For Philip, the trip was a return to his childhood as he grew up in BFG whilst his dad was serving in the Army.

He said: “It was great to be back and meet the children. The Forces do a great job and I’m really proud to have been involved in a visit like this.”

And for Beth it was also an opportunity to find out about the military lifestyle. “I really enjoyed visiting Hohne Garrison and being involved in the sports day at Gloucester School,” she said.

“It was really interesting to learn more about the Forces community and meet the children and families. I met some really lovely people and hope I can do more visits of this kind.”

There was plenty of appreciation for the sports stars. Head teacher Lynn Eckersley said: “It’s been a really memorable time for every single child and for the adults too.”

Pupil Lauraine Mokiti commented: “Getting to see them and actually talking to them was a big, big surprise. It was really cool.”
