SERVICE charity Give Us Time, which helps military families adjust to life after combat, has received a donation worth £30,000 from holiday company Diamond Resorts International.
The Balkan Jewel Resort in Bulgaria became home to military personnel and their families, mostly from the Abingdon and Gurkha regiments, in March this year.
The event was arranged in partnership with Give Us Time, which was launched in 2012 by Dr Liam Fox MP and aims to assist military personnel in need of rest, rehabilitation and reconnection with their families.
Chris Grech, owner of The Balkan Jewel, approached the charity to open his doors to families looking for a relaxing break. Many of the personnel assisted by Give Us Time have had serious injuries and need support in terms of rebuilding their lives and relationships.
In addition to a week’s accommodation, Diamond Resorts International organised transfers from the airport, a welcome event for all guests and entertainment each evening. Give Us Time contributed to the families’ flights and equipment hire costs.
Supporting military families
The company’s president and CEO David Palmer said: “Give Us Time is a fantastic initiative which we are proud to support. Re-adjusting to family life while dealing with the traumas of an operational tour can be extremely difficult, even more so with physical or psychological damage.”
Chris Grech added: “I have been very impressed with the work that Give Us Time does, so I was more than happy to offer accommodation to the Service families. It was an exceptional event, which all attendees thoroughly enjoyed.”
