MY NAME is Helen Garth and I live in Felixstowe. I enjoy photography, dancing and I play in a local ukulele band. When people ask me what I do, I say: “I’m in the business of making women look and feel beautiful.” In the past, I have worked as a counsellor and hypnotherapist because I enjoy helping people to move forward with more confidence and self-esteem in their lives.
My family have long flown the nest and I recently reached one of those ‘zero’ birthdays. I had arrived at a crossroads. I took a long, hard look and realised a definite need for some serious and long overdue ‘external development’! There’s a lot to be said about healing the inside but what about the outside? My wardrobe was full of black, white and blue. Nothing seemed to match. My winter coat looked more like a duvet, my clothes were generally one size too big to hide ‘those bits’ and outdated jeans and leggings often pulled on without a second thought.
Time to get real. Time to say that even though I’ve accumulated more zeros than I’d like to admit, surely I can still look good and get some attitude?
My daughters despaired. My outfits always waiting for that special event until they became too out of fashion, didn’t fit anymore or I’d just got bored looking at them. My lipstick no longer matched my ever-changing hair and skin tones. Was I really applying the same make up as when I was 17? Yes, it was definitely time for a change. Time to get real. Time to say that even though I’ve accumulated more zeros than I’d like to admit, surely I can still look good and get some attitude?
A whole new look

The first step I took was a colour consultation. During the session I was draped in different coloured swatches to discover the colours that matched and enhanced my natural colouring. My style personality was identified and exciting new make-up colours applied.
When I emerged two hours later I felt renewed, excited and energised. I discovered that I could wear colours that I hardly knew existed. Reds and pinks were suddenly a possibility and out-dated rules gone forever. Who said blue and green can never be seen and oranges and reds can’t be worn together?
Those blacks, blues and whites had long been draining me but charcoal looked amazing. The stark contrasts I’d worn for years were too overpowering but softer blends looked fantastic. My favourite accessories proved too harsh and shiny and that lipstick too bland and blue for my skin tone. What a revelation.
The style consultation that followed made me aware of designs and fabrics that flattered rather than concealed my natural shapes and curves. There is a lot of power and excitement in looking and feeling good. I suddenly felt more confident and in tune with myself.
Colourful new you
I now enjoy more compliments and shopping is more satisfying… and the zeros? What zeros! I was so impressed that I have become fully trained to offer others this wonderful experience. I practise in my home, in Felixstowe, and I offer enjoyable and relaxing colour or style updates, make-up, style personality and updates. It is fun and can ultimately save you money in the end. You will find that it is a very enjoyable and friendly experience as you discover colours that complement and enhance your natural tones and shades.
I also provide parties and informative presentations for groups on colour or style. These can include make-up, nails and interesting ways of tying a scarf to enhance your natural colouring or outfits that you may already have in your wardrobe.
If you need a boost before you tackle the outside-in then perhaps a hypnotherapy session for confidence or self-esteem may be a good place to start. This is very relaxing and a start to your journey of bringing out the new and fabulous you that’s just waiting to emerge.
