The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust has announced that it has awarded funds of £380,000 to 12 projects, which improve early childhood education and childcare of service children under the Early Years programme.
Breakfast club boost
Dreghorn Pre-school in Edinburgh has received a grant to expand its provision by employing a dedicated staff member who is responsible for running a breakfast club.
Helen Mullen, Manager of Dreghorn Pre-school, said: “This funding will enable us to expand our provision by offering an early morning breakfast club for all.
“The funding will allow us to create a nurturing dining area, where our youngest children have the opportunity to develop essential lifelong skills as they prepare, serve, and eat in an unhurried and sociable way.”
Community connections
Catterick Garrison Pre-school Group received funding to assist children to connect with their community through visits to local landmarks as well as forest sessions. During this time the children will develop their communication and language skills.
Sensory room
Bulford St Leonard’s Primary School has received funding to create a sensory room, which will support the needs of those service children with special educational needs and disabilities.
Nurturing environment
Alexander First School in Windsor received funding for a nurture hub. Within this space there will be sensory and calming activities which will allow children to develop emotional and social skills.
