FSMREMEM1PUPILS at Fordingbridge’s Forres Sandle Manor School welcomed Brigadier Bill Wright and Major (Retd) Rob Yuill to their morning assembly as part of their preparations for Remembrance Day.

101 years since the outbreak of the First World War, the children were shown the difference between a modern soldier’s uniform and ones from 1924, which were heavy garments made out of wool and offering little or no protection.

The visitors provided a glimpse into the life of a soldier not only in the trenches of northern France, but also from the likes of the Falklands, parts of Africa and Turkey.

Mrs Frances Whitlock, Head of History and Director of Studies at FSM, said: “It was an absolutely fascinating presentation from Brigadier Wright and Major (Retd) Yuill, which was not only informative but helped us to understand a little more of the impact of war.

“Learning is so much more realistic if we can see and touch the evidence, bringing the past to life.”
