When moving overseas your choice of car insurers is more important than you think…
Some families have reported to AFF that they have lost their No Claims Discount (NCD) for the years they have served overseas, as well as the ones they had accumulated previously, because they had been living away from the UK for so long. The Services Insurance & Investment Advisory Panel (SIIAP) advises that it’s not just a question of translating [the certificate] into English, but also interpreting the discount that is given as other countries calculate the NCD differently.
So when choosing your car insurance overseas, check that the foreign insurer will be able to provide you with a NCD written in English and that NCDs will be accepted by UK insurers on your return to the UK.
