FOR Chris Sharrott, serving in the military has meant moving home a lot – in fact, soon he’ll be heading off to New Zealand to take up a temporary new posting.

But before travelling halfway across the world, Chris decided it was time to put down some roots – a place he could return to and call home – in Cheshire, close to where he grew up.

“I hadn’t been actively looking to buy a house, because of the nature of my job. But I had owned a house when I was based in Cheshire previously, and getting back on the property ladder was part of my long-term thinking,” explained Chris, who is stationed at RAF Shawbury in nearby Shropshire.

Thanks to a tip-off from his mum, Chris found out about Bovis Homes’ unique Armed Forces Discount Scheme, available across the country, including at the house builder’s Hampton Lea location in Malpas.

The discount scheme sees Armed Forces personnel (including Reservists) receiving £500 off every £25,000 spent on a Bovis Home, as well as £500 towards legal costs and a package of extras including carpets and flooring.

“My mum called me to tell me she had seen the signs for Bovis Homes’ new development in Malpas and that they mentioned incentives for people in the Armed Forces. I thought it couldn’t do any harm to go along and take a look around.”

Chris, and his girlfriend Lindsay, who have been together for seven years, toured the four-bed detached Montpellier show home and were very taken with the design.

“We really liked the Montpellier. All of the rooms were a good size and we liked that there are French doors off both the living room and the kitchen, which is perfect for our two dogs Max, a Kelpie Collie cross, and Bracken, a Springer Spaniel,” he said

“We didn’t realise just how much help the discount scheme would help, and by using the full ‘Trinity’ scheme we were able to afford to buy the house, when otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to. It was really simple to understand too.”

Trinity is the name given to purchases that combine the Bovis Homes All Inclusive Discount with the Forces Help to Buy scheme and Government Help to Buy equity loan.

“Once we had made our reservation, the whole process was really simple. It was only a matter of six or seven weeks until we moved in,” explained Chris.

“We’ve settled in well, and we’re enjoying our new home. This is obviously an area I know well, but it’s good to own my own home here now.”

And what about that move to New Zealand?

“We’re very excited to be moving to New Zealand early next year, as I take up a new role there. We’re hoping to rent our home in Malpas out while we’re over there, but it will be nice to know that when we’re done with that adventure, our home in Cheshire will be waiting for us.”
