HUGE congratulations to Laura Lewin, AFF’s Employment, Training, Allowances and Money Specialist, on receiving a commendation from the Bovington Garrison Commander for her dedication to the local military community.

Laura’s work in support of the families of Bovington Garrison community includes:

  • Setting up voluntary organisation “Bovitots” with two other wives, providing social support and a focus for wives that may not be able to afford or travel to other support networks.
  • Setting up a running club, a circuits club and a netball club for wives. The latter has been incredibly successful, with notable success in local leagues.
  • Following the Fiji disaster this year, Laura set up and co-ordinated a consolidated garrison response including a fundraising netball match that raised £355 for the disaster relief.

All of this, alongside her paid work as an AFF co-ordinator, has helped to tackle isolation among Army spouses in the area.

Laura’s award citation reads: “Her unwavering dedication and drive (sometimes in a contested environment) has absolutely contributed to the quality of life for wives and mothers across Bovington Garrison. For her passion, vision and incredible support she deserves public recognition.”

AFF is extremely proud of Laura’s efforts and is delighted her hard work and dedication has been properly recognised. Congratulations!
