As the latest academic year draws to a close, pupils – and staff – share their secrets on successfully settling in their new surroundings. Here, a year seven student from Queen Victoria School tells us how they have been getting on.

How have you found your first year at the school?
I have found my first year at the school very interesting and fun.

What have you enjoyed the most?
I have enjoyed the classes and the tutor trips. My favourite trip had to be when I went to Megazone in Falkirk because I came eighth and ninth in my first two games.

What new skills or hobbies have you picked up?
I picked up knitting, hockey, rugby and how to make bread.

What did you find was the biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge was leaving my mum and dad to come here.

What advice would you give to someone starting at the school in the next academic year?
My advice is to make sure that no-one can get to you, and the more friends you make means it won’t be hard.
